Now that we’ve gotten a taste of the some exciting sites America has to offer, it’s time to make our next destination one in the Caribbean. Let’s take it back to the sand and sun- somewhere to relax and enjoy life. Let’s visit Jamaica!
Jamaica is part of the Greater Antilles and is located in the Caribbean Sea. This carefree island is the perfect place to get some serious R&R. It’s a place to get reconnected with nature and feel good about life. Leave your laptops at home, put your blackberries on silent and get ready to have the time of your life.
Jamaica is rich with culture and history. Although the official language is English, Jamaicans primarily speak Jamaican Patois, an English-African Creole language. It is home to legendary Reggae artist Bob Marley, the Father of the Back to Africa Movement, Marcus Garvey, and the fastest man in the world today, Usain Bolt. Because it is the homeland to so many individuals who have made an international impact, when exploring Jamaica, you will be able to learn so much on this small island.
Jamaica’s beaches are breathtaking. There are several that make for an experience like no other. Negril Beach for example stretches for over 7 miles and has white, soft sand that will make you forget all of your worries. If you’re looking for a more intimate kind of setting, San San Beach is for you. This small beach has beautiful, crystal blue water, and is the perfect place to snorkel and see all of the exotic sea life.
Some of Jamaica’s other main attractions include Dunn’s River Falls and Rose Hall. Dunn’s River Falls is where you can see 600 ft. of fresh mountain water fall effortlessly into the Caribbean Sea. This makes for the perfect adventure as you can climb the smooth steps and make a plunge into the warm water. Rose Hall, on the other hand offers more of a historical flare. Located in Montego Bay, this great house, built by Annie Palmer, was the main house to a 6,600 acre plantation with more than 2,000 slaves. This site is of historical significance and a great way to explore the past.
Jamaica has an endless number of activities. There is horseback riding, snorkeling, mountain biking, and hiking. The weather is beautiful and the beaches are gorgeous. It truly is a place where you can forget your troubles and have a little fun.
Jamaica is so well-known for its beautiful beaches, so thank you for touching on the more cultural aspects! It is such a rich culture that I would love to explore it for myself! Another aspect that speaks to culture is the food; what did you think about the cuisine when you visited?
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to Jamaica! One of my roommates (I live in a supplemental room) is from Jamaica, and she used to describe her home all the time. It certainly sounds amazing. I could sure use a break from wet and cold Happy Valley... Just imagining the warm sandy beaches is getting me excited!
