Martha's Vineyard

Imagine it’s a sunny, warm, clear day. There isn’t a cloud in the sky and you’re ready to begin a day full of adventure and excitement. But what will you do? Don’t worry; there is plenty to do. You’re on the island of Martha’s Vineyard!
Martha’s Vineyard is a small island located off the coast of Massachusetts.  It is approximately 87.48 square miles and has a population of about 1500 year-round residents. It may not be very large, but this island is rich with history, entertainment, and beauty.
What are you in the mood for?  From relaxing on the sandy beaches to biking through the vast forests, there is always something to do. Everyone is different, and Martha’s Vineyard is an island that matches everyone’s diverse interests and personalities.
Let’s begin with the beaches.  There are several different options when choosing your perfect day at the beach. If you’re looking for calm, relaxing waves in a quiet, remote section of the island, Lambert’s Cove is for you. This beach has fine sand, clear water, and privacy. What more could you ask for? If small, lapping waves are not exactly your interest, you should be sure to check out Aquinnah Beach. This beach is surrounded by breath- taking  clay cliffs and is rich with Native American culture and history. The beach may be rocky, but the view is certainly something to remember.  But  perhaps you are a daredevil looking for the perfect waves to try your new surfing skills. South Beach, home to some of the largest waves on the island, is certainly the place for you. This beach has soft sand, huge waves, and is perfect for those wishing to be adventurous.
Not only does Martha’s Vineyard have beautiful beaches, it also has restaurants that serve delicious, fresh seafood and shops that sell everything from exquisite jewelry to one-of a- kind t-shirts. If you’re looking for a vacation spot that has variety, extraordinary sunsets, and unique beaches, Martha’s Vineyard is the place for you.

  1. What a great starting point for a series on travel! Martha's Vineyard is truly a gorgeous destination and your post brings me back to my own childhood travels to the island. One interesting fact I would like to add about Martha's Vineyard is that the famous film, Jaws, was filmed there; it is an enjoyable watch after a long day on the island! By the way, am I correct to assume the topics of the blog are places of interest for travel, or places you have visited?

  2. I've been to Boston a bunch, but never to Martha's Vineyard. Martha's Vineyard is somehow extrememly well knows even though it only has 1,500 year-round habitants. Pretty interesting. If that is true that Martha's Vineyard must have a lot to offer that only it can. I'd love to travel there, but that water in the ocean is probably cold even in summer. That's never cool (cool as in culture, not temperature). I guess I could be open to it though.

  3. Honestly, I have never really thought about going to a beach anymore north than where I live in Maryland, but I think I'm going to have to go to Martha's Vineyard at least once. And Marvin said that JAWS was filmed there! I am a huge movie buff and JAWS is an iconic movie, which makes Martha's Vineyard all the more appealing. When I think of Martha's Vineyard, I tend to think of Madras pants and Vineyard Vines ties, but it seems that there is much more than the classic prep scene that I have imagined. I want to go now!
